Maldivian table tennis youngster Malaak Binth Muizzu is set to take an important step in her international career, making her debut on the WTT Youth Contender circuit at tournaments in Puerto Princesa and Bangkok.

Malaak will compete in the Under-19 Girls’ Singles and Under-19 Mixed Doubles events at both the WTT Youth Contender Puerto Princesa and the WTT Youth Contender Bangkok, facing some of the strongest young players competing on the international youth circuit.

The two tournaments will mark Malaak’s first WTT event, providing the young Maldivian with an opportunity to gain valuable experience against international opposition and experience the demands of competition at a higher level.

Joining Malaak on the trip is former Maldivian table tennis player Mueena Mohamed, who will accompany her as her coach. Mueena’s experience as a former player will be an important asset throughout the tournaments, providing Malaak with technical guidance, match preparation and support during her first WTT experience.

Competing in the Under-19 category will present a significant challenge, with Malaak facing opponents from different countries, backgrounds and playing styles. However, the experience is expected to be valuable in helping her understand the pace and intensity of international competition.

For a developing player, international tournaments offer lessons that go beyond the results. Each match provides an opportunity to assess her current level, identify areas for improvement and gain confidence in handling the pressure of international competition.

The back-to-back tournaments in Puerto Princesa and Bangkok will also give Malaak the chance to gain valuable match exposure and adapt to different opponents in a short period. The experience could prove particularly important as she continues to build her career and aims for greater opportunities on the international stage.

While the focus will naturally be on her performances at the table, Malaak’s participation should also be viewed as an investment in her long-term development. Exposure to the WTT youth circuit at this stage can help provide the experience and understanding needed to progress towards higher levels of competition in the future.

With her first WTT appearance ahead and Mueena Mohamed providing guidance from the coaching corner, Malaak will be looking to make the most of this opportunity — gaining experience, competing with confidence and taking another important step forward in her table tennis journey.
