Young table tennis player Aishath Haala Hafeez has emerged as one of the promising young talents in Maldivian table tennis after securing the Under-11 Girls’ Singles runners-up medal at the 64th National Table Tennis Tournament, held in Malé from 2 to 12 August 2026.

Aishath’s achievement is particularly significant for the development of table tennis in Addu City, where a structured youth development training programme was launched just six months ago. Her success at the national level in such a short period highlights the potential of the programme and the growing talent among young players in Addu.

The achievement demonstrates that with proper coaching, consistent training and the right opportunities, young players from the islands can compete successfully at the national level.

The Youth Development Programme in Hithadhoo, Addu City, is being led by Sri Lankan coach Tarind, whose dedicated work with the young players has already begun producing encouraging results. Aishath’s national runners-up finish is a strong indication of the potential of the programme and the effectiveness of the training being provided to the next generation of players.

The success also reflects the importance of continued support for grassroots sports development in the Maldives, particularly outside the capital. Providing young athletes with access to qualified coaches, regular training and opportunities to participate in national competitions can play a major role in developing future national-level players.

Special appreciation goes to the Table Tennis Association of Maldives, the Maldives Olympic Committee, and the Addu City Council for their support towards the development of table tennis in Addu City.

Aishath Haala Hafeez’s achievement is not only a personal milestone but also an encouraging sign for the future of table tennis in Addu. With the youth programme only six months into its journey, her success at the 64th National Tournament provides a glimpse of what could be achieved through continued investment and commitment to youth development.

From Hithadhoo to the national stage, the future of table tennis in Addu is looking promising.
